In 'Let's Be Cops,' Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans, Jr. dress up as LAPD officers, and people – including dangerous ones – take them for the real thing. Here are other movies in which the hero is mistaken for someone else.
North by Northwest (1959)
Ad man Roger O. Thornhill (Cary Grant) happens to raise his hand in a restaurant at the exact moment when a wanted spy named "George Kaplan" is paged, and the thrills begin in one of Alfred Hitchcock's most enjoyable films.
The Wrong Man (1956)
Several Hitchcock storylines revolve around a "wrong man" scenario; here, it's spelled out in the title itself. Based on a true story, Henry Fonda plays an innocent man arrested for robbery in this unusually realistic outing for the Master of Suspense.
The Big Lebowski (1998)
There are a few nods to Hitchcock -- and Raymond Chandler -- in this Coen Brothers cult comedy, in which Jeff Bridges plays bowler/slacker Jeff "The Dude" Lebowski, mistaken by various thugs for millionaire Jeff "The Big" Lebowski. Let the quotes begin.
Galaxy Quest (1999)
Stars of a canceled TV show about space travelers are thought to be the real thing – by a group of actual aliens who have come begging for some cosmic assistance. The cast (including Sigourney Weaver, pictured) is pure gold.
Three Amigos! (1986)
In a similar vein, Steve Martin, Martin Short and Chevy Chase play silent movie stars who travel down to Mexico thinking they've been invited to perform. In actuality, they've been invited to rescue a small town from real-life banditos.
Date Night (2010)
Tina Fey and Steve Carell pull a Roger O. Thornhill when they claim a reservation at an exclusive restaurant – a reservation belonging to a couple being pursued by a mobster. An all-star supporting cast fills out this hit comedy.
Desperately Seeking Susan (1985)
A bored housewife (Rosanna Arquette) gets amnesia and mistakes herself for the mysterious "Susan" she reads about in the personals. Susan, of course, is played by Madonna, comfortably getting into the groove of superstardom.
Red Rock West (1993)
This latter-day film noir has a devoted following. Nicolas Cage plays it straight as a drifter mistaken for the hitman "Lyle from Dallas." Then, the real Lyle from Dallas (Dennis Hopper) shows up, and that's just one of many juicy plot twists.
Lucky Number Slevin (2006)
Josh Hartnett is a guy named Slevin, but he's believed to be his friend Nick, who owes a lot of money and is wanted by rival gangsters. Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Lucy Liu and Stanley Tucci add to the mania.
Dave (1993)
Kevin Kline plays a doppleganger for the President of the United States in this charming comedy hit.
Monte Carlo (2011)
Selena Gomez stars as an American tourist posing as a British heiress in France. A sweet, little romantic comedy, all things considered.
Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979)
Leave it to the Pythons to skewer the New Testament when boring old Brian (Graham Chapman) is thought by the people of Jerusalem to be the Messiah. And now you can stop quoting 'The Big Lebowski' and start quoting 'Life of Brian.'
Whistle Down the Wind (1961)
On the flip side of 'Brian,' a young British girl (Hayley Mills) is convinced that the escaped convict (Alan Bates) hiding in her family's barn is actually Jesus. Years later, Andrew Lloyd Webber adapted this moving drama into a stage musical.
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010)
Two harmless hillbillies – that would be Tucker and Dale – run into a group of paranoid college kids who believe them to be killers. This gory horror spoof is quickly becoming a cult classic.
Being There (1979)
Simple-minded TV addict Chance, a gardener, is thought to be a political guru named "Chauncey Gardiner" by the Washington, D.C. elite. Peter Sellers, as Chance, shines in one of his final screen performances.
