When Sony shuffled Roland Emmerich's Singularityfrom May 17, 2013 to November 1, 2013, Paramount seized the opportunity to release their Star Trek sequel just before Memorial Weekend.
While the sequel is still without a title, Deadline revealed that J.J. Abrams will shoot the movie in 3D.
The sequel was delayed from its original June 29, 2012 release date as Abrams was finishing up on Super 8. The studio ended up giving that date to its other sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
Abrams has been putting final touches on the script from Damon Lindeloff, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
The biggest question is how die-hard Trekkies will react to their beloved franchise joining the ranks of 3D movies. The 2009 reboot managed to attract a new, younger audience, helping the film amass $258 million worldwide. One thing's for sure - that 3D lens flare is going to be something else!
