‘Seen on the Screen’ Podcast: Colman Domingo Explains the Big Idea Behind Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day

Colman Domingo might be the busiest man in Hollywood. The Oscar-nominated actor is currently starring in four major projects, Michael, Netflix's The Four Seasons, HBO's Euphoria, and, of course, Disclosure Day. It's for this latest film that Domingo sits down with Seen on the Screen host Jacqueline Coley to talk about working on the newest entry into Steven Spielberg's catalogue of legendary science fiction films.

Disclosure Day actually marks Domingo's second time working with the director — he portrayed Private Harold Green in Lincoln (2012) — but his first close encounter with a Spielberg alien movie set. "I feel very blessed to be in this world," Colman says.

As for what world, exactly, Disclosure Day is set in, that's being kept a secret, much like every other plot detail. The movie's official logline — "If you found out we weren't alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people. We are coming close to ... Disclosure Day." — reveals almost nothing. And while the action-packed trailer does seem to confirm that stars Josh O'Connor, Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, and Domingo will have some sort of alien encounter, it doesn't give away much else.

Unfortunately, Domingo must remain equally tight-lipped ahead of the Disclosure Day's June 12 release. But, he does tease a deeper meaning behind the movie's sci-fi elements. "I can tell you with my entire heart that it is one of the most hopeful films that anyone can see right now," he tells Coley.

"Essentially, it's about Steven's heart and his belief of what we could be if we invite the unknown in," he continues, adding that UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) or UAPs (Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon) "are a stand-in for the other." Disclosure Day then asks the question: "Instead of saying no to it, what if we said yes?"
