We’re still over half a year away from Avengers: Age of Ultron landing in theaters, but there’s already heavy speculation regarding how Marvel will handle The Avengers 3.
If the current rumors posted over at Screen Crush pan out, it looks as though Marvel could be pulling a Hobbit or a Hunger Games and releasing a third entry in the wildly popular superhero franchise that’s broken up into two films. The idea for the story of a third Avengers movie may be so big that it can’t be contained in one movie.
The alleged plan says that the first part of Avengers 3 would debut on May 3, 2018, with the second half appearing on May 4, 2019. Both dates have already been claimed by Marvel, though no movies have been officially announced yet.
It all sounds plausible, except the catch is that Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. have contracts that only run through Avengers 3. So, in order for this to happen, all the cast members would have to renegotiate their deals with Marvel, which could get pricey and a bit time consuming. We'll keep track of this rumor and let you know when there's an update.
Meanwhile, we may now know when the first trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron will hit. Current rumors claim the first official footage will appear before Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, which opens on November 7.
