Last weekend my Extract prediction was completely off base and wrong (the film finished in ninth place!), and The Final Destination turned out victorious for a second week in a row. What's the Scoop: Producers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov serve up this post-apocalyptic animated flick about a group of weird looking creatures who band together to help one another survive a brutal robot invasion.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: The name Tim Burton certainly doesn't hurt it, and a jump-start over the rest of the competition (the film opened on September 9th) could give it the extra boost needed to win the weekend.
What's the Scoop: When they accidentally kill one of their sorority sisters, and then try to hide that fact, someone begins offing the remaining sisters one by one.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: If The Final Destination proved anything, it's that folks are interested in watching young pretty teens die in creative ways. And hey, everyone hates a bratty sorority, right?
What's the Scoop: Tyler Perry returns to the screen once again dressed as an old woman named Madea in this flick which finds the aforementioned Madea taking two delinquent teens to stay with their only living relative after catching them robbing her house.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Tyler Perry has a massive built-in audience who literally race to check out whatever the man puts out on the big screen. And when his iconic Madea character is involved, forget it – this one will be tough to beat.
What's the Scoop: Kate Beckinsale stars in this thriller about an agent who heads to Antarctica to try to catch a killer before the sun sets for 6 months.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Not much marketing to be seen for this long-delayed film, but Kate Beckinsale is always a good draw, and those looking to cool down from the late summer heat should enjoy the arctic setting.
Though it might not seem like the most obvious choice, I'm predicting Tyler Perry to take the top spot at the box office this weekend, mainly because the man can just do no wrong when it comes to raking in the dollars.
