You've checked out our Comic-Con coverage and watched all the trailers and behind-the-scenes footage that was later released to the general public, but how much do you really know about the event's hottest movies? It's one thing to see a cast assembled or even an action-packed commercial, and it's another thing to have the story behind this thing we're all supposed to be very excited about.
Fortunately, you're on the Internet, and there are people here to help you. Below, we invite you to watch five video guides from around the Web informing you of just what a Deadpool is and just how two of the most familiar names in superheroes could go against each other. These guides are background mostly from the comics, though, or prior episodes in the franchise, not spoilers for the new movies themselves.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
For this highly anticipated matchup, which is also a sequel to Man of Steel and due in theaters on March 25, 2016, we turn to Rob Jefferson of Comics Explained and his 75-year History of Batman vs. Superman:
Suicide Squad
As for the other DC cinematic universe movie, we'll let WatchMojo.com briskly yet sufficiently detail the comic book and television past of the supervillain team-up known as the Suicide Squad, whose first movie arrives on August 5, 2016:
X-Men: Apocalypse
Rather than share the comics background on Apocalypse, for this sequel due on May 27, 2016, here is JoBlo.com's supercut of the X-Men movie franchise recapping the basic narrative so far from the seven X-Men installments, including two Wolverine spin-offs, released over the past 15 years. Next year's spin-offs Deadpool (February 12, 2016) and Gambit (October 7, 2016) are also relevant.
Deadpool
Of course, with the excitement exhibited for Deadpool at Comic-Con, we can't just let the X-Men recap alone lead into that bad boy. For this specific character we're going with a history of the "merc with a mouth" from the JFK Gamer, which is very visual thanks to footage mined from a video game.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
You've no doubt seen all six of the previous parts of the Star Wars saga before, but if you don't have the time to rewatch them or refuse to fully revisit the prequels ahead of the release of the seventh episode on December 18, 2015, check out this still relatively lengthy recap from Imagination Juice of the franchise narrative up to now:
