If, for some reason, you’re feeling a little overwhelmed with all the alien invasion films, it’s not your fault – Hollywood has definitely found its next trend. Sure, alien invasion films have been around for awhile now (Independence Day, War of the Worlds, Mars Attacks!), but it seems like, recently, with the popularity of films like District 9 and Transformers, that folks are interested in exploring different storylines that involve aliens on earth either attacking us or trying to fit in among us.

'Skyline'

One film flying somewhat under the radar is Skyline, which comes to us from the special effects gurus who began their directorial career by helming Aliens vs. Predators: Brothers Greg and Colin Strause. The film’s reception at Comic Con was mixed, and although no one underestimates the Strause brothers’ ability to churn out some wicked special effects, I think a lot of people are worried whether these guys were given enough resources (ie: budget) to give us something that looks like it belongs on the big screen and not the small screen.
 
The first trailer for the film – which follows an army of alien ships that arrive on earth and begin vacuuming up all the people as if they’re dirt on a rug -- arrived yesterday, and it definitely looks interesting enough to warrant a piquing of our curiosity.
