It seems like every month we're listing actors who may or may not take over for Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker (aka Spider-Man) in the next franchise reboot, due out (in 3D) in 2012. We know that Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) is directing, but we don't know which up-and-coming young male actor will win the coveted role. Perhaps, though, we've had the most significant progress so far: Heat Vision just put out the shortlist of actors vying for the part. It's a list of five guys – some you've seen more than others – and not long from now one of them could nab the part. Which one? We don't know. Here they are – tell us which one you'd choose…
With roles in Journey to the Center of the Earth, The Kids Are All Right and Zathura, Hutcherson seems like he's about to burst into stardom. He may be a little too good looking for the role, which I think calls for an actor who's a touch geeky, but as one of the more well-known on the list, I could see him being a strong contender.
This guys is a tremendous British actor who's about to start showing up in more things here in the States, including David Fincher's upcoming Facebook movie. Garfield was exceptional in a little indie film called Boy A (seek it out), though I can't really see him as Parker. The opposite of Hutcherson, he might actually be a little too dorky for the role.
Definitely a face you've seen before, Bell broke out in Billy Elliot and has since gone on to several films, including King Kong, Jumper and the upcoming Tintin movie. He'd make for a darker, more brooding Peter Parker – like the kind that attends weekly therapy sessions -- if that's what the filmmakers are going for.
This guy is pretty low on everyone's radar; he's practically an unknown (save for an episode of Supernatural and a role in Tetro), and was apparently discovered by Steven Spielberg through a Bat Mitzvah video. Really odd, but out of everyone so far he looks to fit the bill the most.
Another British actor who appeared as Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Though he may have freaked us out a little in that film, the kid has grown since and really does look like a Peter Parker. Might be a tad young for the part, but I'd like to see what he's got.
