In the 2009 movie Fanboys, a terminally ill Star Wars fan drives out to George Lucas's Skywalker Ranch with his friends in the hopes of seeing the not-yet-released The Phantom Menace before he dies. Now a real-life terminally ill Star Wars fan is attempting to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens before he passes away.

Daniel Fleetwood is a 32-year-old Texan suffering from a rare type of cancer called spindle cell sarcoma. According to his local NBC affiliate, he was told in July that he only had two months to live, and while he's already made it past that deadline he's pretty certain he won't last until the December 18 release of the seventh Star Wars installment.

Fleetwood wishes to see some form of the new movie, and it's been suggested that maybe he can attend an early press screening. Unfortunately, not even the press is likely to see The Force Awakens too far in advance. As the news reported, his cause has the support of Star Wars actor Mark Hamill, via a retweet, as well as that of fellow star of the new film John Boyega in the same manner.

Now it just needs to get the attention of director J.J. Abrams. He actually helped a dying man see his last movieStar Trek Into Darkness, early. Daniel Craft, who was director of the New York Asian Film Festival and a huge Trekkie, got to see an early cut of the Star Trek sequel many months ahead of its release. He ended up dying just a couple days later.

Movies are such an important thing to people's lives that the opportunity to see an anticipated new release is quite a common last dying wish. One little girl with cancer got to see Pixar's Up at home while it was still in theaters and then died hours later. There's also the 60-year-old man dying of prostate cancer who got to see Captain America: The Winter Soldier thanks to support of Avengers stars.
