If Dane DeHaan isn’t careful, he’s going to get typecast as an evil superhero villain.

Months after playing the rogue super-powered teenager in Josh Trank’s Chronicle, DeHaan has been confirmed to pay Harry Osborn in Marc Webb’s planned The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Webb took to Twitter to share the news. Sony followed up with an official release.

"Dane is an exciting and extraordinary young actor and he is a fantastic addition to our cast," Webb said.

That cast also officially will include Jamie Foxx as Electro, as the studio went ahead and announced the Oscar winner will join Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as part of Webb’s ensemble. As you likely remember, Foxx teased on Twitter that he wanted to play Electro in the sequel. So while casting a young actor as Harry Osborn seems to suggest that Webb will begin to tell the Osborn saga, we might have an Electro story before we get down to brass tax.

What is the Osborn saga? Well, Harry and his father, Norman Osborn, are key components to Peter Parker’s story. Harry is Peter’s best friend, though he’s unaware of Peter’s secret identity as Spider-Man. And Norman becomes the Green Goblin, in time … leading to the unfortunate death of Peter’s true love, Gwen Stacy (Stone).

Sony has said that Shailene Woodley would join the sequel as Mary Jane Watson, so all of the pieces are positioning themselves around the board. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 begins shooting in New York in early 2013, aiming for a May 2, 2014 release date.
