Suicide Squad direcor David Ayer has revealed this maniacal first look at Jared Leto's Joker, and the guy just looks nuts. See the image below, posted to Twitter to celebrate the character's 75th anniversary.

But it's a familiar kind of nuts, with the pic giving off a sort of throwback vibe to that iconic image from the 1988 graphic novel The Killing Joke.

In The Killing Joke, the Joker is a failed stand-up comedian who runs with the wrong crowd and winds up disfigured after a battle with Batman; chemicals scar his skin, permanently turning him loony. If that's the version we see in the movie, then know he's definitely not as suave as Jack Nicholson's Joker, and he's not as disheveled and dirty as Heath Ledger's Joker.
He looks part metalhead, part zombie -- like a guy who hasn't slept in years. Look that this face!

Honestly, he's the scariest of the bunch.

Leto's Joker won't be the only supervillain in Suicide Squad. It features a top-secret group of supervillains recruited to run suicide missions for the government to try to gain their freedom. Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney and Scott Eastwood also star, among others.
Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5, 2016. What do you think of the new Joker?
