By now you're probably well aware of the news that Zack Snyder (300) is going to direct the new Superman movie, which Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight) will produce based on a story idea from Nolan and screenwriter David Goyer. As the news began to creep online late yesterday, more details have emerged since our previous posting. Here are a few highlights:
1. General Zod will most likely be one of the main villains in the film. Originally Braniac and Lex Luthor were both supposed to be included; however THR now claims that Zod (played by Terence Stamp in both Superman and Superman II) will be involved, though chances are he won't be the only one who attempts to screw up Superman's plans to keep everyone safe and sound.
2. According to Snyder, Brandon Routh won't be back to play Clark Kent/Superman, which is kind of a shame because the dude really does look the part. No word yet on which actors they're looking at (I'm sure we'll see a short list soon), though one imagines the actor will be in his late 20s to early 30s.
3. In terms of when we'll be seeing this new Superman on the big screen, the plan right now is to have it in theaters during the holiday season of 2012, giving Warner Bros. two massive DC-related franchise films (Batman 3, Superman) arriving in theaters only a few months apart.
4. Zack Snyder is super stoked about the film, telling Variety that Chris Nolan "provides that extra bit of wisdom to a process that sometimes lacks it. It's the best situation we could be in for this character. It's still early in the process but I will say that the story that Chris and David have laid out is pretty awesome."
