The Muppets As the first Muppets theatrical movie since 1999, this reunion of Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie and the rest of the gang bats it out of the park, with a plot that includes the introduction of new Muppet Walter, human companions in Jason Segal and Amy Adams, snappy musical numbers and cameo appearances galore. Extras: Blooper reel (DVD/BD); a 2-disc combo pack adds commentary, Easter eggs, deleted scenes and four featurettes; the 3-disc "Wocka Wocka" pack adds spoof trailers and the complete soundtrack.
Watch: We interview Miss Piggy personally to get her take on the DVD.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Daniel Craig is a journalist hired by a wealthy businessman to find out what happened to a family member missing for 40 years, and gets help by a gloomy, goth-punk computer hacker (Rooney Mara) who suffers from her own demons. David Fincher directs this remake of the Swedish film based on the first in the hugely popular book series, and whether you think it was needed or not, there's no denying Fincher's stylized directing is well suited for the material and Mara's absolutely deserving of that Oscar nod as the riveting, tortured Lisbeth Salander. Extras: Director commentary (DVD/BD); the BD adds four hours of behind-the-scenes footage and interviews on the characters and more.
Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy Gary Oldman stars in this remake based on the John Le Carre spy thriller about tracking down a mole within Britain's SIS, and how the process affects everyone involved. Extras: Interviews and commentary (DVD/BD); the BD adds an interview with Le Carre, deleted scenes and a first-look featurette.
The Sitter Jonah Hill stars in this one-wild-night comedy as a slacker who does his neighbor a babysitting favor and ends up on the run with the kids from a drug lord. Extras: An unrated cut of the film, deleted scenes, a gag reel, outtakes and three behind-the-scenes featurettes (BD only)
Carnage Roman Polanski directs the movie version of the Tony-winning play God of Carnage, an 80-minute foray into what happens when two upscale New York couples (John C. Reilly, Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet and Christoph Waltz) start out with a civil discussion over their sons that degrades into a screaming, insult-hurling war. Extras: Making the film, actor interviews, red carpet coverage (DVD/BD).
New to DVD/BD
Battle Royale This brutal Japanese cult film makes its debut on DVD and Blu-ray just in time for The Hunger Games, about a group of students forced by the government to hunt down their classmates for sport as a way to control their acting-out. They're drugged, taken to an island, fitted with metal collars and told they have three days to kill--or be killed. It's as bloody and savage as you might expect, the decidedly R version of The Hunger Games you shouldn't show the kiddies. Extras: Making-of, special effects featurette, audition and rehearsal footage, press conferences, director's cut, a not-so-great sequel, and more.
