MacGruber OK, my thoughts on this one are mixed. The first time I saw it, I’d had a couple of cocktails and laughed like a loon at Ryan Phillippe with celery sticking out of his ass. Giving it a second look completely sober, most of the jokes came off so painfully unfunny I found myself pity-laughing for the talented cast that I actually like a lot (Will Forte and Kristen Wiig as our heroes tasked with saving the world after swearing off the crime-fighting life, Val Kilmer as nuclear war-threatening baddie Dieter Von Cunth). Make your rental/purchase decisions accordingly, people. Extras: Commentary with Forte and writers Jorma Taccone and John Solomon, deleted scene, gag reel (DVD/BD).

Tommy See me, feel me…in high-def. The Who’s seminal 1975 rock opera claimed that “your senses will never be the same” 35 years ago, and now the newly restored film makes this threat again as it gets a complete remastering with a 5.1 soundtrack in addition to the original 5.0 Quintaphonic track. The story follows Tommy (Roger Daltry), traumatized as a 6-year-old after seeing his father murdered by his mother’s lover and experiencing all sorts of abuse as he grows up—until he becomes a pinball wizard hailed as the “messiah.” Weirdly, this release doesn’t include any extras, not a one, while some international versions contain hours of them, so you get only the movie here and nothing else
