One of the biggest questions on the minds of fanboys everywhere is whether The Incredible Hulk will join the upcoming Avengers movie, due in theaters in 2012. While Iron Man is enjoying all sorts of success (as well as his first sequel this May), the last two Hulk films – both of which have attempted to kick off a brand new franchise – haven't exactly found that same spark.

The Incredible Hulk

It's weird, too, because I enjoyed both Hulk films, but I can see how there's just something about the character that doesn't exactly leave fans itching for more. Perhaps it's that Bruce Banner (Edward Norton in the last film) is kind of a sad dude, who spends his entire life on the run from the military and pretty damn miserable. Compare that to the fast-talking, womanizing ways of Tony Stark and it's pretty easy to see why one character is a lot more popular than the other.

But if there won't be any new Hulk films, will the character still show up in an Avengers movie alongside other, more popular characters like Iron Man, Captain America and Thor? Speaking to SFX Magazine, Marvel honcho Kevin Feige said that the Hulk would indeed be a part of the film and that it's their hope that Edward Norton will return to the role. He says, "It's certainly our intention to use the same actors from film to film where we can."

Now seeing as Norton was heavily involved in the script for The Incredible Hulk, he may demand the same sort of involvement on the Avengers in order to guarantee his participation. I'm not saying that's a bad idea, but as one of the biggest and most important superhero films ever made, Marvel will have to take a long hard look at what's most important: creating a kick-ass film, or making Edward Norton happy.
