Paranormal ActivityNot long ago we passed along word that Paramount had agreed to rush a Paranormal Activity sequel into production in order to make a release date of October 22nd so that it could once again square off against the next Saw movie. Not only that, but they also snagged Saw VI director Kevin Greutert and hired him to helm the Paranormal sequel.

 Paranormal Activity 2: 2
Saw VII: 0

Now, though, the tides have changed a bit – as Deadline Hollywood reports that Greutert has been wooed back by Lionsgate and will now direct Saw VII in 3D instead of Paranormal Activity 2. This, now, leaves Paramount without a director for its Paranormal sequel, and the folks over at Lionsgate are probably loving it.

Paranormal Activity 2: 2
Saw VII: 1

But Paranormal Activity still has a leg up on the Saw franchise because it's new and hip and kids are gonna flock to the next installment. All Paramount needs to do is bring on a director who can churn out a sequel that will help launch a franchise. Meanwhile, Lionsgate is hoping the 3D gimmick is what will save the next Saw film from losing out to its newly formed arch-nemesis.

…and if both films stink, maybe Paramount and Lionsgate will just pool their resources and make Paranormal Activity vs. Saw: The Movie. Yeah, I'd see that. You?
