X-Men fans who’ve read the two-issue comic-book arc that producers are going to follow for Days of Future Past know how integral Wolverine is to the narrative. 

 

Good thing Hugh Jackman’s more than willing to play the character once again in an X-Men sequel.

 

The Hollywood Reporter says Jackman is “in negotiations” to play Wolverine for Bryan Singer once again, making it his seventh time in the role. The plot of Future Past will connect the ensemble from the recent First Class film with members from Singer’s original X-Men trilogy. As laid out in the books, it involves time travel, with Kitty Pryde from the future must warn X-Men in the past about a possible threat. 

 

As THR says, producers always have been weaving threads to connect the films in the franchise, with Jackman popping up in First Class for an amusing cameo. And it’s not like Jackman has wandered too far from Wolverine. He’s lined up to play the character in The Wolverine, a sequel to his own origin story, in a thriller that will be in theaters on July 26, 2013. 

 

Again, this makes sense. Wolverine’s integral to the Days of Future Past plotline. And if Singer’s prepared to bring Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart back into the fold to reprise their roles of Magneto and Professor Charles Xavier, then Jackman as Logan in the upcoming sequel is the next inevitable step.
