One month from today many of us will be sitting down inside a packed movie theater full of giddy fans all jacked-up and itchin' to watch a brand new Star Wars movie on the big screen. Some may not have been alive the last time a new Star Wars movie was in theaters, and some may be continuing a tradition that dates all the way back to the day the very first Star Wars movie arrived in theaters back in 1977.
Whatever your story is, embrace it and let the fact that we're only one month away sink in.
Here's one The Force Awakens character you haven't seen yet...
Meet Constable Zuvio, described by Lucasfilm as a “tough and humorless vigilant law officer on a mostly lawless world” who “keeps order in a frontier trading post." One look at this dude's eyes and you can tell he means business. Most likely we'll meet this character at some point while on the planet Jakku, as that appears to be the location in the background. Does he run into Rey? Does he have something to do with how Rey meets BB-8? We'll soon find out!
Check out this sweet new image of the Millennium Falcon in battle...
As part of another spread on The Force Awakens, Wired debuted this very cool image of the Falcon in battle. Christian Alzmann, senior art director at Industrial Light and Magic, describes how it all came together:
“The big change on the Falcon is that radar dish, because it was knocked off in Return of the Jedi through some of Lando’s close-quarters flying,” Alzmann says (as if you didn’t know). “As far as the rest of the Falcon goes, we had a whole crew that went up to the archives and saw the original five-foot model from Empire. So the textures are from the original, pretty much. I’m sure our artists put a lot of love into it and fixed anything they found troublesome.”
Chewbacca and BB-8 battle stormtroopers in new Verizon TV spot...
The fun thing about this spot is just how vintage it all feels. This scene could've come straight from the first Star Wars movie, and while it's not a scene ripped directly from the movie, it does make you wonder what sort of adventures Chewbacca and BB-8 will find themselves on in The Force Awakens.
Disney will keep making Star Wars movies until people stop going to see them...
As part of Wired's coverage of The Force Awakens, they sat down with many of the key members of this early Star Wars output, including J.J. Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy, Lawrence Kasdan and Rogue One director Gareth Edwards.
During the chat Kennedy borrows a line from Indiana Jones when she jokes that they're "making it up as they go along," alluding to the fact that there are a ton of moving parts that are in no way worked out yet -- and this includes a young Han Solo movie, as well as one focused on the bounty hunter Boba Fett.
But one thing is made clear, though -- they will not stop making Star Wars movies so long as you want to go see Star Wars movies. "They are making more. A lot more," writes Wired's Adam Rogers. "The company intends to put out a new Star Wars movie every year for as long as people will buy tickets. Let me put it another way: If everything works out for Disney, and if you are (like me) old enough to have been conscious for the first Star Wars film, you will probably not live to see the last one. It’s the forever franchise."
Can Star Wars really last forever? What do you think?
