One of the biggest questions fans have with regards to an R-rated Deadpool movie is whether using the character in a movie that's, say, rated PG-13 will water him down in some way. It's a valid criticism -- after all, once you introduce this foul-mouthed, raunchy, R-rated version of the character and then put him in a movie where none of that language is allowed, will that deliver fans a version that doesn't feel as authentic?

Could it hurt the entire Deadpool franchise?

(And yes, we say franchise because the writers of Deadpool are currently hard at work on a sequel. We will see a Deadpool 2!)

We sat down with Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld and asked him about this since it's an ongoing debate with all superhero movies these days playing into a larger connected universe. Will Deadpool only be used in R-rated movies, or can he pop up in future PG-13-rated X-Men movies, too?

"Absolutely!" Liefeld shouts when asked whether Deadpool can cross over to the X-Men movies. He cites a line in the Deadpool movie where the character describes himself as someone who doesn't "take the s***s, I just disturb them."

Liefeld says the key to using Deadpool in an X-Men movie is to use him sparingly and remain true to who the character is -- as in a guy who disturbs moments. "I can absolutely see him running through a scene in an X-Men film where he disturbs it and then just leaves," Liefeld says.

Deadpool won't have a cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse (as far as we know), but they still have a Wolverine movie in the works. And if Deadpool is going to pop up in any of these future X-Men movies, you gotta play off his complicated relationship with Wolvy.

Do you think Deadpool has a place in the PG-13 X-Men universe?
