Frank Grillo, who appeared in The Grey and End of Watch this year, may be poised to join the cast of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Grillo has met with Marvel and tested for a role rumored to be Crossbones and it appears he's close to getting the part. The actor tweeted earlier today about his visit to Los Angeles with the hash tag "#captainamerica," though the tweet has since been deleted, most likely in accordance to Marvel's philosophy of keeping everything they work on close to the chest.
Crossbones is a highly trained mercenary working for the Red Skull. Although the character's potential appearance in the 2014 sequel is far from confirmed, Ed Brubaker's Captain America comics, including the Winter Solider story arc, have served as a major inspiration for Stephen McFeely's screenplay.
Captain America: The Winter Solider arrives in theaters April 4, 2014 and will star Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie. There has been no additional developments on the casting of Sharon Carter, which had been narrowed down to these five actresses.
What do you think of Grillo potentially starring as Crossbones?
