It's not much, but this is the first image of Andrew Garfield as the new Peter Parker on the set of his Spider-Man reboot. That's Emma Stone sitting next him (and, spoiler warning, in other images they're smooching) – she's playing Gwen Stacy, Parker's high schoolmate and love interest.
At first glance it seems they've given Garfield a sort of Edward Cullen look – with the high hair, all tossed around like he just woke up and stepped out of an Abercrombie and Fitch ad. Though you can't see it in this cropped image (check out more over at Just Jared), he's also wearing a pair of gloves with the fingertips cut out. Definitely a moody hipster vibe going on, but that's the point. The reason they brought director Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) on to this in the first place was because he's a guy who knows how to connect with today's youth. This won't be an old cardboard comic cutout of Peter Parker; this will be a Parker who belongs very much in the now, so to speak.
Since these aren't official photos, we can't really criticize them. From here, the guy looks good for the role, though I am curious to see how he balances the superhero good looks with the awkwardness of Peter Parker. Tobey Maguire was so good at that, and we hope to see the same (if not more) from Mr. Garfield.
