Now before you fanboys start burning buildings and looting convenience stores at the mere mention of Justin Timberlake as the Green Lantern, let me inform you that right now nothing is official. AICN is reporting (via an unspecified source) that Timberlake screen-tested (ie: auditioned) for the role of Green Lantern, and he's among a select group of guys that are all vying for the much-coveted role.

Timberlake, while charismatic and fun to watch on "Saturday Night Live", probably wouldn't be the best choice to lead a major comic property, especially since he still carries some of that boy-band mystique that fanboys love to hate. But the Green Lantern is a wild card, and maybe Timberlake will surprise. After all, the same was said about Heath Ledger when he signed on to play Joker …

Cameron Diaz Circling 'The Green Hornet'

Green Lantern, Green Hornet, Green Arrow – I swear, half the time I don't even know which superhero I'm talking about. Moving on from Green Lantern, The Green Hornet is the film starring Seth Rogen, to be directed by Michel Gondry. It was written by Rogen and his Superbad partner Evan Goldberg, and it will revolve around that famous newspaper publisher who wears a mask and fights crime.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Cameron Diaz is now in early talks to play the love interest in the film. There's no word on who her character is and whether she belongs to the Green Hornet mythology, but if she does sign on expect her to be locking lips with Mr. Rogen. Production is set to start soon, with a July 9, 2010 release date planned. Do I see Rogen as a superhero? Not really, but with the creative talent involved, I'm dying to see what they make of this.

Superman Might Return in 2011

Don't get your hopes up too high, but according to a new court ruling, we may have a new Superman movie in theaters by 2012. During a legal proceeding in which the heirs of Superman co-creator Jerome Siegel sued the studio for money they felt they were still owed, Warner Bros. chief Alan Horn said that a new Superman movie is currently not in the works, there is no script written and no one is cast. While the Superman heirs didn't win this particular case, the judge did say that if Warners doesn't get a Superman film up and running by 2011, the heirs will be able to sue to recover their damages.

I know, it's confusing, and I don't really understand the legality of the case either (since I'm not a lawyer), but chances are the studio won't want to pay out, and so production on a new Supes film could begin as early as 2010 or 2011, with a release date of 2012.
