Deadpool Colossus

A few months ago, Deadpool looked like a movie that would come and go quickly, good or bad, popular or not. But instead it's the hottest release of the year, so far anyway, and continues to dominate the box office, performing much greater than anyone anticipated. And after two weekends, it's still generating news and discussion.

Here's the latest:

Deadpool is Now the Highest Grossing X-Men Movie in America

After only two weekends in theaters, Deadpool holds the spot for the highest grossing movie in the X-Men franchise (adding to its other records). Well, that's without adjustment for inflation. As of yesterday, the merc-with-a-mouth showcase has earned $241 million domestically. The next best is 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand with $234 million. Adjusted for inflation, though, that movie is number one and Deadpool is in fifth place. By the end of its run, however, Deadpool could easily hold court on both versions of the box office chart. As for worldwide business, Deadpool is currently pretty far behind X-Men: Days of Future Past, $498 million to $748 million.

Deadpool Oscars

Deadpool Gets a Last-Minute Oscar Push

Academy members are turning in their Oscar ballots soon, so Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds just tweeted out a last-minute For Your Consideration -- er, "Considerbation" -- ad, seen above. "Only a few hours left for Oscar voting," he wrote. "Too late for a write-in campaign for an ineligible movie?" If so, there's always next year, right? Also, there is one thing of truth in that ad: Betty White graded the movie "4 Golden Girls" in a video you can watch here.

Deadpool Could Have Very Easily Been Rated PG-13

We know any movie could easily wind up with a PG-13 rating, by the order of the studio to aim for that more marketable classification. But more than that, Deadpool could have been easily written and directed, with surprisingly few changes, in order to meet that rating. If the studio had been adamant. "You take some of the swear words, you take out some of the sex, the violence is all in how it’s shot," screenwriter Rhett Reese said of the potential rewrite of the movie on the Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith podcast (via Cinema Blend)." So it wasn’t as soul crushing as you’d think. But it lost its teeth a little bit." And maybe it wouldn't have been as big a hit.

Deadpool Answers Fan Questions

Want more Deadpool? Of course you do. And he's happy to keep making appearances and viral videos, even after his movie is a big hit. So are Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, and T.J. Miller, who plays Weasel. In a new alcoholic beverage-sponsored bit called Dear Deadpool: An Experience with Wade Wilson (also via Cinema Blend), the duo try to answer life questions from fans, involving family etiquette, wedding etiquette and neighbor-murdering etiquette -- er, ammo advice. Deadpool likes to respond in his own ways, of course. Watch it below. Then, if you haven't seen Deadpool's response to the petition for him to host SNL, watch it right here.
