Warning: This post will contain spoilers for Captain America: Civil War.
It's no surprise that Tom Holland's Spider-Man completely steals Captain America: Civil War when the character is finally thrust into the thick of the fight between Iron Man and Captain America. His moments are brief, but every second he's on-screen counts. Not just that, but it also feels like this version of Spider-Man may be the most fan driven yet. From the jokes early on about not needing to hear another origin story to his comical gee-whiz attitude throughout the entire airport fight, it's as if this new Spidey was formed by the fans, for the fans.
And while we only get to see him show up in two scenes (three if you count the after-credits moment), there was one other scene we never got to see make it to the screen. Fandango recently caught up with Civil War writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and they let us in on an additional Spider-Man scene that was originally written into the script.
"[There was] a scene of Peter Parker getting flown across the ocean on Tony Stark's private jet," Christopher Markus explained. "We enjoyed [writing] that."
Markus added that they began working on Spider-Man before Marvel Studios even had the rights to use the character. "It came and went, and we did have versions of [the airport fight] without him in it," he says. "But when he finally came in, he did what he really seems to do best in this movie: inject a strain of levity and wonder into a story that might be getting a little too heavy for some people."
It's easy to see why that additional scene was cut as it really would not have served the story in any way other than to give us more time watching Tony Stark crack jokes at Parker's expense... which would've been fine. We loved those parts.
But fear not! Both Downey Jr. and Tom Holland will be back starring opposite one another in Spider-Man: Homecoming, due out next year. Now say it with us... "Underoos!"
