As Avengers: Age of Ultron gets ready to drop on digital HD and the Disney Movies Anywhere app on September 8, and then on DVD/Blu-ray October 2, we're starting to get some fun behind-the-scenes images and videos, like this showing us what James Spader looked like as Ultron.
Well, we know what Ultron looked like, but this is what Spader actually looked like while performing as Ultron in a full motion-capture suit --complete with red dots high above his head meant to be Ultron's eyeline for those actors playing off him. In this case it's Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) who, in the video below, admit it was difficult to act opposite Spader because they couldn't look at him -- they had to look three feet above him.
"It was so irritating because he was doing so much that you wanted to watch," Olsen says. Check out the video (via USA Today) for more.
Spader's performance was definitely one of the highlights of the second Avengers movie. While Joss Whedon wrote some terrific dialogue for the long, drawn-out speech-prone Ultron, Spader's movements and physical acting gave Ultron this fun, wannabe-godlike quality that just sort of slow-danced with his dialogue. It was actually kind of romantic in very nerdy way.
And also fun to watch! In fact, it made us want to see more of Ultron in another movie. James Spader is too good to have in only one Marvel movie!
Here's another taste of Spader in action as Ultron.
