Biography
Lara Jean Chorostecki could never be accused of sticking within narrow margins. Nabbing roles in the realms of drama, comedy, crime, science fiction, fantasy, and horror, Chorostecki certainly put her classical acting training to good use. Though Chorostecki accrued roles in a number of well-known television series and films, she was best known for her turn on "Hannibal" (NBC 2013-15), on which she played crime journalist Freddie Lounds. Lara Jean Chorostecki was born on September 24, 1984 in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Tutelage at the Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre Training and the Royal Central School for Speech and Drama, where she earned a Master's degree in Classical Acting, prepared a young Chorostecki for a career on stage and screen. The earliest of Chorostecki's acting jobs were one-time appearances in American and Canadian series like "Doc" (PAX 2001-04), "72 Hours: True Crime" (CBC 2004-07), and "Degrassi: The Next Generation" (CTV/The N/TeenNick 2001-15), as well as TV children's movies like "Roxy Hunter and the Mystery of the Moody Ghost" (Nickelodeon 2007) and "Charlie & Me" (Hallmark 2008). In 2009, Chorostecki landed her first recurring role on a television program. Throughout the first season of the science fiction/fantasy drama "The Listener" (CTV 2009-2014), she played Maya, the mother of series star Craig Olejnik's character Toby. Following her departure from the show, Chorostecki joined the comedy series "Dan for Mayor" (CTV 2010-11) as the regular character Charlie. Chorostecki continued to amount small screen credits, including the TV movie "The 19th Wife" (Lifetime 2010) and a recurring part on "Camelot" (Starz 2011), before earning her feature film debut: the science fiction/horror movie "Antiviral" (2012), directed by David Cronenberg's son Brandon Cronenberg. After landing a follow-up feature, the crime comedy "Please Kill Mr. Know It All" (2012), Chorostecki began a steady collection of recurring television roles. She started with a six-episode stint on "Copper" (BBC America 2012-13), moving on soon after to a two-season-long run on the critically acclaimed drama "Hannibal" (NBC 2013-15), playing crime blogger Freddie Lounds. During her tenure on "Hannibal," Chorostecki also began a turn on the dramatic thriller series "X Company" (CBC 2015-).
