Biography
Fearless actor Jonny Beauchamp first came to attention as transgender prostitute Angelique on "Penny Dreadful" (Showtime, 2014-) before stealing the show in Roland Emmerich's LGBT drama "Stonewall" (2015). Born in The Bronx, NY to Puerto Rican parents, Beauchamp moved to Rockland County to receive a better education, where he also made his on-stage debut as Rooster in a school production of "Annie." Inspired by the film "Fame" (1980) and Broadway musical "Cabaret" to pursue an acting career, Beauchamp moved back to the city to study Theater at Marymount Manhattan College and then the Professional Performing Arts School. Besides a bit-part in hipster drama "How to Make it in America" (HBO, 2010-11), Beauchamp initially struggled to forge a career following his graduation and was forced to work as a waiter and children's acting coach to make ends meet. But all that changed when he was cast as Ray/Ramona, the androgynous street hustler who serves as Danny's guide to city life in "Stonewall" (2015). Although the film was heavily criticized for whitewashing the foundation of the gay rights movement, Beauchamp's performance was widely hailed as its saving grace. Beauchamp also made a notable impression as Dorian Gray's love interest Angelique in Victorian gothic horror "Penny Dreadful" (Showtime, 2014-), appearing full-frontal in his very first episode, and he continued to build on his momentum with a leading role in "Thirsty" (2015), the musical biopic of drag queen and Cher impersonator Scott Townsend. Beauchamp then starred alongside Emma Roberts and Dave Franco in high school horror "Nerve" (2015) and played crazed homeless man Tommy in sci-fi thriller "Black Wake" (2015).
