Biography
Giacomo Gianniotti was a Canadian actor of Italian descent who broke out in the U.S. in 2015 when he joined the cast of the long-running medical drama "Grey's Anatomy" (ABC, 2005- ). Born in Rome, Italy, Gianniotti moved to Toronto with his family when he was a young boy, and spent the remainder of his formative years growing up there. He knew from a very young age that he wanted to be a professional actor, but didn't start working as an actor until his early 20s, choosing instead to study the craft in acting school. He attended the Theatre Program at Humber's College in Canada, and was also completed a highly-competitive residency at Toronto's Norman Jewison Canadian Film Centre. In 2010 he started landing small roles on TV both in Italy and Canada, before landing his first recurring role on the Canadian series "Copper" (BBC America, 2012-2013) in 2013. From that moment on, his television acting career really began to take off. In 2014 he nabbed a recurring part on The CW's period-fantasy series "Reign" (2013- ) and followed that up with another recurring role on the Canadian series "Backpackers" (OLN Canada, 2013-2015). Then in 2015 Gianniotti landed the highest profile American TV role of his career when he began appearing as the surgical intern Dr. Andrew DeLuca on ABC's long-running medical series "Grey's Anatomy." The following year, in 2016, Gianniotti was cast in a supporting role in the biographical sports drama "Race" (2016). That film told the story of the legendary Olympian Jesse Owens, and his memorable four time gold medal winning appearance at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany.
