A familiar face in British television drama, Andrew Buchan cornered the market in playing men in crisis with highly-acclaimed performances in "The Fixer" (ITV1 2008-09), "Broadchurch" (ITV1 2013-) and "The Great Fire" (ITV1 2014). Born in Stockport, England in 1979, Buchan studied Modern Languages at Durham University before switching his attention to acting, going on to attend London's prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Buchan initially found parts hard to come by and spent his post-graduation years working as a tour guide for Granada Studios, a barman at Manchester Airport and a laborer in Italy before landing his first notable role as Mercutio in the Royal Exchange Theatre's 2005 production of "Romeo & Juliet." After making his on-screen debut in detective TV movie "If I Had You" (ITV1 2006), Buchan played vicar St. John Rivers in two episodes of "Jane Eyre" (BBC1 2006), cynical lobbyist Scott Foster in political drama "Party Animals" (BBC2 2007) and teacher Sean Knowles in fast-paced six-part series "The Whistleblowers" (ITV1 2007) before making his first appearance as loveable carpenter Jem Hearne in cosy period drama "Cranford" (BBC1 2007-09). Following a guest part as Dr. Ian Wexler in hit crime show "Bones" (Fox 2005-), Buchan received huge praise for his lead performance as John Mercer, a former soldier recruited by the government to assassinate criminals unapprehended by the law, in "The Fixer" (ITV1 2008-09), and ventured onto the big screen as Fishwick in young John Lennon biopic "Nowhere Boy" (2009). After portraying another real-life figure, cross examination pioneer William Garrow, in legal drama "Garrow's Law" (BBC1 2009-11), Buchan appeared as journalist Billy Marshall in TV movie "Abroad" (2010), Joseph in "The Nativity" (BBC1, 2010) and Junior Third Officer Thomas Mortimer in World War II epic "The Sinking of the Laconia" (BBC2, 2011). Buchan then returned to the film world for "Having You" (2013), a bittersweet romantic comedy in which he played a man who discovers he has an eight-year-old son, produced and starred in "1946" (2013), a short film based on the life of Hollywood legend James Stewart, and played grieving father Mark Latimer in award-winning crime drama "Broadchurch" (ITV1 2013-). A year later, Buchan appeared alongside Maggie Gyllenhaal in the British spy thriller "An Honourable Woman" (BBC2 2014) and starred as Thomas Farriner, the Pudding Lane baker blamed for starting London's historic 1666 blaze in "The Great Fire" (ITV1 2014).
