You Rate the New Releases: 'Underworld,' 'Red Tails,' 'Haywire,' 'Extremely Loud…'

With 3D and IMAX prices available to bump up the final numbers, Underworld Awakening was able to knock Contraband off to claim the top spot at the weekend box office. The George Lucas produced Red Tails also had a strong showing, pulling in just over $19 million for second place.

Meanwhile, Steven Soderbergh's action flick Haywire, starring Gina Carano and a slew of leading men in supporting roles, didn't make much of a mark, pulling in $9 million to claim fifth place. Was it because audiences got their fill of action from Underworld and Red Tails or was it because Carano isn't the household name that Kate Beckinsale, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrence Howard are?
 
The weekend also the expansion of the Tom Hanks-Sandra Bullock 9/11 themed drama Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, which performed respectably with a $10.5 million, fourth place finish.
 
If you listened to the critics, Haywire was the clear favorite, garnering an 82% certified fresh rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, Underworld (29%) and Red Tails (33%) failed to impress.
