Usually this is the spot where we rate the weekend's box office champ, but since Shrek Forever After somehow managed to defeat both Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Sex and the City 2 with $55 million, we thought it might be best to get your thoughts on the second and third place movies – whether they deserved those not-so-hot box office numbers, and if you'd like to see more.
While it was notoriously panned by critics, Sex and the City 2 still had its adoring fans, a lot of which ventured out to theaters over the weekend to see Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha travel the world and change their outfits close to 200 times. Some fans I've spoken to absolutely loved the film, while others had less encouraging things to say. Also squashed by that green ogre was Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Disney's next attempt at launching a huge franchise. Not as well-reviewed as the first Pirates of the Caribbean, but Persia is still a pretty fun flick, and definitely a worthwhile summer moviegoing experience. Did the fact that it wasn't in 3D hurt it? Probably, especially since that's what I think it keeping Shrek alive at the top of the pile. So if Disney does stage a sequel (which they may, depending on where this thing ends up), expect it to come in 3D. What did you think of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time?
