What a weekend for the Paranormal Activity franchise, huh? With no competition on the horror front – and with the Saw franchise out of the picture – Paranormal Activity 3 raked in a crazy $54 million on opening weekend, all but guaranteeing at least three more sequels. And folks seemed to dig the film, too, which is really having fun with its narrative and mythology instead of churning out boring, cookie-cutter follow-ups. Will they have enough juice to preserve the franchise’s quality for several more sequels? Probably not, but right now this puppy is showing no signs of slowing down.

The other major release … not so much. After a much-publicized Twitter tirade on the part of Milla Jovovich – who claimed Summit Entertainment marketed her film, The Three Musketeers, all wrong – the 3D action flick (or, as Milla put it, family adventure film) disappointed at the box office with only $8.8 million and fourth place, falling behind Real Steel (2nd place and $11.3 million) and Footloose (3rd place and $10.8 million). The Ides of March rounded out the top five with $4.9 million.

But was Paranormal Activity 3 really that good, and was The Three Musketeers really that bad? Sound off below with your review of this past weekend’s new releases, and let us know what the deal is …
