My predictions were on a roll until we hit this week, where yet another kid-friendly film stole the box office from all of the new releases. And there were a lot of them, too, like my pick 50/50, which I thought might pull off a number one finish thanks to all the positive buzz and a giant marketing push from Summit Entertainment. But nope … Dolphin Tale won it, with Moneyball and The Lion King 3D in second and third, respectively. How crazy is it that in a week that saw four wide-release new releases, the top three spots at the box office were filled by movies that were already out in theaters for more than week? What does that say about our movie-watching habits? What does that tell Hollywood about what you really want to see in theaters?
