As we inch closer to the 2011 Summer Movie Season, it’s the kid-friendly movies that are killing it at the box office. First Rango, then Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, and now Hop. With its startling $38 million take, Hop not only won the weekend, but it also snagged the biggest opening weekend take of the year so far. Those numbers are sure to change once we get into May and the bigger boys come out to play, but the animated movie about the Easter Bunny beating the fan-favorite sci-fi action movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal ($15 million) says a lot about who’s going to the movies these days.

Since both Hop and Source Code finished first and second respectively – but also because they were the two most talked-about films of the weekend – we want to know your opinion. Did Hop deserve its massive opening weekend take? Does this prove moviegoers are hungry for more Easter Bunny flicks? And despite it being the more entertaining film, how come Source Code didn’t have a better weekend? Is Jake Gyllenhaal losing his mojo?
Sound off in our polls below and let us know which film really deserved to win the weekend box office.
