The past two weeks have been taken over by a film that’s almost 20 years old, and one has to wonder whether The Lion King 3D is poised to do it all again as it enters its third week of release against a bunch more new releases. It’ll be tough, that’s for sure, as this weekend brings us a little bit of everything – a cancer dramedy, a spooky thriller, a romantic comedy and even a faith-based film that’s surprisingly doing some solid advanced ticket selling. What’s the Scoop: Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars in this real-life story about a man in his twenties who is diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, and how he juggles the many aspects of his life going forward, including his foul-mouthed best friend (Seth Rogen) and overbearing mother (Anjelica Huston).
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Summit has been screening the hell out of this for months now trying to build buzz, and so far we think it’s worked. The film plays great and it’s easily the most deserving of your box office dollars this weekend. Guess we’ll see if the non-stop marketing will pay off …

Why It Might Win the Weekend: As we enter the month of Halloween, folks might be looking for a good scare.
What’s the Scoop: Anna Faris stars as a woman who revisits the twenty men she’s had relationships with in order to see if one of them might be the person she’s meant to be with. Chris Evans co-stars as one of those dudes.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: We could think of worse things than watching Anna Faris and Chris Evans for an hour and a half.
What’s the Scoop: This faith-based film from the director who brought us Fireproof is about a group of police officers who struggle with their faith and their roles as fathers when a tragedy strikes close to home.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Aside from it doing really well with advanced ticket sales right here on Fandango (it was leading the pack of new releases earlier this week), these faith-based films seem to do extremely well. Fireproof took home upwards of $33 million at the box office, so we expect Courageous to do solid business too. Enough to beat out all the competition? Possibly.
My Prediction: This is a difficult weekend to predict a winner, though since it’s opening on the most screens I think I’ll go with 50/50. It’s the best film of the weekend, so maybe picking it to win will help send good box office vibes its way.
My Pick of the Week: Yup, you guess it – 50/50. I really loved the heck out of this when I saw it earlier this summer because it’s a film that gives you a little bit of everything. There’s comedy, drama, a little tear-jerking and some terrific performances. This is the film I recommend you see this weekend.
