After years of patiently waiting for this film to become a reality, Marvel's The Avengers finally arrives in theaters this weekend just in time to officially kick off the 2012 summer movie season. The reviews are in, buzz is real strong, and movie theaters will be packed full of all sorts of fans this weekend as The Avengers looks to break a few box office records and show those Twilight and Hunger Games kids that superhero movies have a place on those highest-grossing lists too.
But just how much will The Avengers make in its first weekend? We're gonna leave that up to you to figure out. The film will have to earn more than $169 million to top Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 as the highest-grossing opening weekend of all time. If it can't do that, then it can become nab the highest-grossing opening weekend for a superhero (comic book) film if it tops The Dark Knight's $158 million.
Does it have enough legs to reach either of those box office milestones? I don't think it'll climb quite that high, but it may top Spider-Man 3's $151 million. Sound off below with your best guesses as to how much The Avengers will make opening weekend.
