Okay, first off, we knew a lot of folks would line up for Fast & Furious last weekend, but did we really expect the damn film to speed away with over $70 million at the box office? That's insane! That's furious! While I try to comprehend the ridiculous popularity of Vin Diesel, it's time once again for us to put on our movie business hats (mine's red, white and awesome), and vote on which film we think will win the weekend. Here's what we've got:
Hannah Montana: The Movie
What's the Scoop: Miley Cyrus takes her Hannah Montana character back to the big screen for a film about being yourself and exposing the hidden rock star inside all of us.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Though this will be much different from last year's Hannah Montana concert movie, that doesn't mean her fans won't be interested. Look for hoards of little girls (and boys) to race to the theater to see their favorite TV idol do what she does best.
What's the Scoop: Based on the ultra popular manga series, Dragonball Evolution follows a young warrior who sets out to collect seven powerful (and magical) orbs before the villainous King Piccolo uses them to destroy the world.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: While the girls are off watching Miley tear it up, the boys will all be climbing over one another to get a look at the first live-action Dragonball movie. This will definitely be a battle of the massive fanbases, and it’ll be interesting to see who wins out.
Observe & Report
What's the Scoop: Seth Rogen and Anna Faris star in this filthy, foul-mouthed dark comedy about a mall cop (Rogen) who takes the law into his own hands in order to stop a serial flasher from harassing mall patrons.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Both Rogen and Faris are two of the funniest actors working today, and together they could just be an unstoppable force of non-stop hilarity.
I'd say there’s truly something for everyone at the theaters this weekend, and while Miley and Dragonball will certainly flex their new release muscles, let’s not forget those Fast & Furious folks. They surprised us last weekend, so what’s not to say they’ll do it again this weekend? Sound off below!
