If you're not all that familiar with film festivals, let us just tell you up front: zombie movies don't usually win the big awards. Unless it's a specific genre-driven film festival, your run-of-the-mill indie zombie flicks typically play in a designated midnight section, and then eventually make their way to theaters. Not so with the film Here Alone, which became the rare zombie film to win one of the most coveted awards at the Tribeca Film Festival: the Tribeca Audience Award.

The film is called Here Alone, and it now joins other audience-friendly indie movies like Jon Favreau's Chef as the favorite among moviegoers attending this year's festival.

So what is Here Alone

Well, it's not your typical zombie movie in that it takes a more subtle approach to its story about a woman named Ann (Lucy Walters) who's trying to survive a zombie outbreak by holing up in the middle of the woods. As she adjusts to her new life, other threats soon reveal themselves and it may not just be those zombies Ann has to watch out for.

Check out the film's trailer below.

What's great about Here Alone is that it gets back to what we really love about the zombie movie. This is a super low-budget film shot in the middle of the woods that relies more on its haunting and tense character-driven moments than it does wowing you with tons of special effects and thousands of zombies.

Here Alone doesn't yet have a distributor, but one will surely pop up soon. Until then, release date on this one is TBD.
