The Hitman video games are notorious not just for the wide variety of ways you can execute targets, but also for making it ridiculously hard to pull off your missions in just the right way. They emphasize stealth and planning and methodology over crazy, over-the-top action. So, naturally, the trailer for the new movie Hitman: Agent 47 (August 28) has little stealth but tons of crazy, over-the-top action.
But hey, we ain't complaining. This looks pretty cool.
Hitman: Agent 47 is a total franchise restart, for those familiar with the 2007 Hitman movie starring Timothy Olyphant. Rupert Friend dons the Agent 47 barcode on the back of his shaved head this time around in a brand-new story about a genetically engineered killing machine we're supposed to root for while he fends off assassins who spear cars with grappling hooks like they're in a Fast & Furious movie.
That's not a complaint, either. Hitman: Agent 47 may not accurately capture the tone and style of the games, but if it did, it'd be 90 minutes of a bald guy failing to kill the same person over and over until he gets frustrated and turns it all off... because that's basically the Hitman games in a nutshell. The movie, however, looks like loads of fun.
