Here are a bunch of little bites to satisfy your hunger for movie culture:
Franchise Recap of the Day:
Avengers: Endgame is now in theaters and already breaking records at the box office. Fans are still preparing for the new release, though, and recaps of what’s happened previously in the Marvel Cinematic Universe keep on coming to help those in need. Here’s Burger Fiction’s take, an evolution of the franchise from Iron Man through the latest installment:
Character Evolution of the Day:
If you need another recap to help you recall at least the last seven year’s worth of movies and specifically how Thanos has been involved with the greater narrative of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, WhatCulture takes a look at the evolution of the big bad and how he’s changed in significance and appearance from 2012’s The Avengers through Avengers: Endgame:
Classic Movie Trailer of the Day:
It’s only been a year since the release of the last Avengers movie, but in keeping with this week’s MCU recapping, we’ve got one more classic movie trailer to share after revisiting the first spots for The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Here’s the original trailer for Avengers: Infinity War, which opened in US theaters on April 27, 2018:
Reworked Movie Trailer of the Day:
Many fans consider Avengers: Infinity War to be Thanos’ movie, that he’s the protagonist rather than the antagonist even though he’s the bad guy. So, it’s fitting that YouTuber Mr. Krepshus has mashed up Infinity War with the trailer for the DC movie The Joker, in which the iconic Batman villain is the protagonist of his own origin story. Watch it here:
Movie Parody of the Day:
When Thanos snapped his fingers in Avengers: Infinity War, he wiped out half the sentient living creatures in the universe. For many, this is obviously an enormous tragedy. For guys who hated their life as it was, maybe the snap was a blessing. Here’s a parody from The Warp Zone showing why the situation of fewer people on Earth would at least make Disneyland less crowded:
The Real Deal of the Day:
Seriously, though, what would happen if a super villain managed to snap away half the Earth’s population? There’d be a lot more to deal with than just mourning the loss of loved ones who were part of the unlucky side of the 50/50 split. This video from AlternateHistoryHub looks into what the devastating ramifications would amount to in the real world if the events of Avengers: Infinity War were real:
Custom Build of the Day:
In Avengers: Endgame, Thanos has a new weapon, which is kind of massive double-edged sword, and you can check out what the thing would look like in real life, too, courtesy of prop replica builder Owen Abbott. Pay attention to this video on how he does it, and maybe you can add one of these to your ow Thanos cosplay game:
Video Essay of the Day:
As part of the One Marvel Scene collaboration of YouTube channels this week, Sage Hyden of Just Write looks at the meaning of the variety of fake and somewhat real military ads within some of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, including Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain Marvel:
Cosplay of the Day:
It seems everyone is cosplaying the movies this weekend as they go see Avengers: Endgame. Even celebrities are doing it, as evidenced by the pre-screening photoshoot posted by Kylie Jenner, who dressed up as Captain Marvel while her partner, rapper Travis Scott, cosplayed as Iron Man and their child is swaddled in Thor’s cape. See more at Jenner’s Instagram.
Actor in the Spotlight:
Also in theaters today, The White Crow is the latest directorial effort from Ralph Fiennes. He also co-stars in the biographical drama about Soviet dancer and choreographer Rudolf Nureyev, so now’s a fine time to look back on his career in front of the camera. Here’s a video for GQ in which Fiennes discusses his most iconic movie characters, including Harry Potter’s Voldemort, of course:
