Last night, Fandango and Movies.com editor Erik Davis moderated a Q&A session with White House Down director Roland Emmerich at the Apple Store in SoHo, NYC. Being one of the big stories of the day, much of the conversation was focused on Independence Day 2. Here are three things we learned from last night's Q&A session. If you'd like to read Erik's full write-up of the event, jump on over to Movies.com!
1. Emmerich reiterated that Will Smith was too big of a star and too expensive to cast in the sequel, but he also admitted that he hadn't presented Smith with the final script and hopes that he can get the actor for a cameo to "pass the torch."
2. Casting for the sequel was said to consist of half returning characters and half new ones. When pressed for who would be returning to the sequel, Emmerich said Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman were on board.
3. In addition to making Independence Day 2, Emmerich said that he's still interested in pursuing a sequel to Stargate and producing an adaptation of Lawrence of Arabia for television.
Independence Day 2 is scheduled to arrive in theaters July 3, 2015. Meanwhile, White House Down arrives in theaters this weekend.
