CLASSIC MOVIE SCENES
Guy Ritchie early gangster movies: With the release of The Gentlemen this weekend, filmmaker Guy Ritchie returns to his roots in the crime film genre. Courtesy of Movieclips, here are some memorable moments from his early works:
Jason Statham as Bacon: Jason Statham made his film acting debut in Ritchie’s first feature, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and this scene from the movie is a great introduction to both of their talents:
Vinnie Jones as Big Chris: Ritchie’s style is also on display in this mostly dialogue-free sequence from Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels involving different gangs after the same money, drugs and guns. Former pro footballer Vinnie Jones also memorably makes his film debut as the guy who comes out on top in the end:
Brad Pitt as One-Punch Mickey: Statham also appears in this clip from Ritchie’s sophomore effort, Snatch, but Brad Pitt playing a difficult-to-understand boxer is what helped the movie and the director hit the mainstream:
Dennis Farina as Cousin Avi: The one American voice in Snatch comes via Dennis Farina as a gangster hailing from the other side of the pond. Thanks to his character’s ruthlessness (or bluff?), this scene could have gotten very ugly for a lot of animal lovers in the audience:
