Attack the BlockLast month’s SXSW Film Festival introduced the world to one film that people haven’t stopped talking about. Fans (including yours truly) who caught a screening of Attack the Block in Austin have had nothing but awesome things to say about this British export about a bunch of inner-city, South London neighborhood toughs who do battle against an army of aliens that fall from the sky.

Good news for those itching to see this flick is that Sony Pictures has picked it up and will distribute via its Screen Gems label. No word on when they’ll be releasing it (I feel it’d do well in early October maybe, or late August), but fans of alien invasion movies and older youth-oriented films like The Goonies should find plenty to love in this one, which also feels like a throwback to fan-favorites like Critters and Gremlins.

The only issue facing the film is the thick South London accents, and American audiences tend to shy away from foreign films that feature thick accents. But this is a genre picture, and like District 9 I feel the accents only help the movie in becoming one of its most memorable characters. So, yeah, don’t worry about it. Truth.
