Last year Warner Bros. was looking to launch a live-action version of Wonder Woman with Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Joss Whedon writing and directing. When that fell through, however, the project went away – and some thought it was because the studio wasn’t too confident in spending the money on a big-budget superhero movie with a female lead.
Some time has passed now, though, and according to IESB the studio might be looking to pump a little love back into this franchise. The site claims Warner Bros. is looking for a new director; this comes after a new animated Wonder Woman film (featuring the voice of Keri Russell as Wonder Woman and fan favorite Nathan Fillion as Steve Trevor) has done quite well on DVD, proving folks really do want a full-on Wonder Woman flick. Additionally, chances are they would use the new movie to tie into an eventual Justice League film, like what Marvel is doing with their properties.
Of course the real question isn’t who will direct, but who will star as the beautiful Amazon warrior. With a bunch of up-and-coming females currently making the rounds (see the cast of Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch), I’m sure it won’t be hard to find someone.
Who would you like to see star as Wonder Woman?
Browning Replaces Seyfried in Snyder's Sucker Punch
And speaking of Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, Entertainment Weekly is now reporting that Emily Browning has replaced Amanda Seyfried in the lead role of a film that Snyder describes as "Alice in Wonderland with machine guns." If all goes right, Browning – who was last seen in the horror flick The Uninvited – will join a powerful all-female cast that also includes Evan Rachel Wood, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, and Emma Stone. (Hmm, Vanessa Hudgens … she’d made a pretty good Wonder Woman, I think. Or maybe Evan Rachel Wood?)
Set in the 1950s (with a reported budget of $100 million), Sucker Punch follows a girl who’s sent to a mental institution by her evil stepfather, and it’s there that she’s taken into an alternate reality – one she desperately tries to escape from. Doesn’t make much sense yet, but I’m sure it will eventually.
What do you think? Does it sound like a risky movie, or will the hot all-female cast tempt fanboys (and girls alike) to theaters in droves?
Gemma Arterton Goes from Bond Girl to Titan Clasher
Yes, they’re remaking the 1981 film Clash of the Titans – which told of the myth of Perseus and his quest to save the Princess Adromeda by battling both Medusa and the Kraken monster – and according to Empire, Bond girl (and soon-to-be Prince of Persia princess) Gemma Arterton has joined the cast as a demi-goddess named lo who Perseus falls in love with. The character was not in the original film, and according to Arterton, that’s not the only change. She says, "The script is very different. Obviously the story is the story, but it’s much more about Perseus’ mission, and how he deals with being the son of Zeus, and things like that, so it feels a little more about him, and about the issues around that."
Have you seen the original Clash of the Titans? What do you think of this remake?
