Here we are on the verge of another exciting weekend at the box office, and I'm back to find out who you think will emerge victorious. But first, the competition:
Monsters vs. Aliens
What’s the Scoop: Dreamworks' latest 3-D offering follows a ragtag group of under-the-radar monsters who are summoned to save the earth from invading aliens.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: It’s a big old family film from the folks who brought us Shrek and Kung Fu Panda – plus it stars the voices of Seth Rogen, Reese Witherspoon, Jonah Hill, Rainn Wilson … and the list goes on and on.
12 Rounds
What’s the Scoop: Former professional wrestler-turned-action star John Cena stars as a detective who must complete 12 tough challenges in order to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: The promise of action and explosions might prove a little too tempting for those searching for a weekend release … but is John Cena strong enough to defeat both monsters AND aliens? Something tells me he’ll need more than just a headlock or a piledriver.
The Haunting in Connecticut
What’s the Scoop: It’s another one of those inspired-by-a-true-story horror flicks about a family who begin to experience supernatural behavior inside their home.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: People like to be scared, and playing up the real-life angle may attract those folks looking for a spooky good time.
So that’s what we’re looking at this weekend, but before you vote know this: According to Fandango numbers, Monsters vs. Aliens is in the lead with 57% of online ticket sales. That said, the well-received comedy I Love You, Man and the Nicolas Cage thriller Knowing are still in theaters and you bet they’ll be putting up a good fight. Sound off below …
