Forget Sin City 2, Robert Rodriguez has just signed a deal with 20th Century Fox to bring a brand new Predator sequel to the big screen that, according to reports, will be "a bold new chapter in the Predator universe." Right off the bat, the studio has slapped a July 7, 2010 release date on the film – which, on the surface, feels a little rushed, but Rodriguez likes to move fast so obviously he feels confident enough to make that date.
That said no writer or director is attached yet, so, yeah, they better get moving. In addition to Predators (working title), Rodriguez has written a feature-length script for Machete, starring cult favorite Danny Trejo – which you may remember as being part of those fake trailers during Grindhouse. Yup, fans loved the Machete character (a knife-wielding Mexican ex-Federale out for revenge) enough that Rodriguez and Trejo wanted to extend the story and create a new movie. Production on that is expected to begin this June for a probable 2010 release.
What do you think about a new Predator sequel? And which ex-Predator actor would you like to see make a cameo? (I vote for Carl Weathers!)
Denzel Washington is 'Unstoppable'
This summer Denzel Washington will star opposite John Tarvolta in a remake of The Taking of Pelham 123 (which looks fantastic by the way), and in the film Washington plays a subway worker in New York City. Well, the guy must like trains because Washington is in negotiations to play an engineer who hops aboard a train to help a conductor chase down another train carrying toxic chemicals. Unstoppable, to be directed by Tony Scott, was written by Mark Bomback and is sorta based on a true event. Sounds like Speed…with a train.
If he signs on, this would mark the fifth movie Washington has worked on with Scott, following this summer’s The Taking of Pelham 123, Crimson Tide, Man on Fire and Déjà vu. What do you think of actor-director combos? Do you get tired of the same pairing or do you welcome the partnership for as long as it shall go on?
