Last summer's Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D opened to some pretty big numbers ($240 million worldwide), and in Hollywood you know what that means – sequel, baby! The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Brendan Fraser and Josh Hutcherson are expected to return for a story that we'll call Journey to the Bottom of the Center of the Earth 3D! Okay, maybe it's a little too early to speculate on titles – but in all reality, coming up with a sequel is kinda hard since Jules Verne (the author of the original Journey) never wrote a sequel.
That won't stop producers, however, who will use another unrelated script as a basis for the second installment. That script is said to revolve around the premise that "literary tales "Gulliver's Travels," "Treasure Island" and Verne's own "Mysterious Island" all occurred on the same island." No word on when the sequel will hit theaters, but you can spend this time journeying back to when Brendan Fraser actually made enjoyable movies … and then hope he does the same here. (Did I just go there? Sorry Brendan, you'll always be a hero in my book.)
Did you see Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D? Do you think there's enough material there for a sequel?
Seriously, We Still Don't Have a Director for Twilight's 'Eclipse'?
At first we thought Chris Weitz would direct New Moon and Eclipse and be done with it. Then we learned the director's chair for the third film based on the Twilight saga was up for grabs, and the names began to drop fast. First it was Drew Barrymore, then it was Paul Weitz (Chris' brother), and finally everyone thought the gig went to Orphanage director (and Guillermo Del Toro protégé) Juan Antonio Bayona.
But just when you thought it was safe to look forward to a pretty solid third installment from a creeptastic director, think again. Summit Entertainment's president of production Erik Feig told the Los Angeles Times that they haven't chosen a director yet and they're still in the process of meeting with, like, lots of other people. (Side note: If Summit ever puts an ad on Craigslist for an Eclipse director, do you think it would read "Must Love Vampires"?) So, for now, consider the Eclipse job vacant.
Who wants it? Who should get it?
From Slum Girl to Bond Girl
Yup, it's about that time again – time to start talking about who the next Bond girl will be. And according to the British tabloid The Sun (not the most reliable source), Slumdog Millionaire's Freida Pinto is the first name to emerge as a contender. They claim the hot up-and-coming actress was invited to a screen test, and that she may just be the perfect fit for the next 007 adventure.
Says one source: "Freida came to the attention of the Bond team when they were casting Quantum of Solace. She was too young at the time to have a part as a love interest for a secret agent. But she has blossomed into an incredibly stunning young woman and would look perfect on Daniel Craig’s arm." Well, she’s not exactly a watch, but I get what they’re saying.
What do you think? Does Freida have the Bond girl chops, or is there someone else you fancy?
