With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story launching into theaters soon, anticipation is already riding high on how, exactly, the film will conclude. After all, the official premise of the movie is that a newly assembled team of rebels are assigned to steal the secret plans for the Death Star.
Since we've all seen Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, which begins with those plans safely in the hands of Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), we assume the mission will be successful, but what about the team of thieving rebels? Who will survive? Could a sequel be made, perhaps depicting the team carrying out other dangerous, secret missions against the backdrop of events taking place in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi?
That might sound far-fetched, but now Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, has quashed the possibility, telling Empire magazine (via Slashfilm) that a sequel, which she jokingly referred to as Rogue Two, will not be made. Her comment confirms what she said last year, namely, that the stand-alone movies "very definitely have a beginning, middle and end" and "are not being designed to necessarily build new franchises."
Returning the focus to Rogue One, a live-streaming event will be hosted on Twitter on Friday, December 2, beginning at 1:00 p.m. EST (10:00 a.m. PST). Fresh new content from the movie will debut, followed by a question-and-answer session featuring Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy and director Gareth Edwards
In addition to Kennedy and Edwards, cast members Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and Riz Ahmed.will be included and fans will be able to submit questions to be answered during the session by using hashtag #AskRogueOne on Twitter. The live stream will be hosted by People.
