Inside Out is an adorable film that everyone can relate to. The movie is about an 11-year-old Midwestern girl named Riley who loves hockey. But her world is turned inside out when her family decides to relocate to San Francisco. To help her stay grounded, Riley’s emotions - Joy, Anger, Disgust, Sadness and Fear - do their best to keep her balanced through this life-changing event.
For Halloween, wouldn’t it be fun to bring these characters to life for the whole family? If you have a little girl, here are three of the film's characters to choose from - Joy, Disgust and Sadness.
My friend’s daughter plays all three roles perfectly. I was so excited to spend the afternoon with her to create these looks!
For all three, make sure your child’s face is clean and moisturized. The face should be clean and smooth before applying any face paint. I used Kryolan Color Wheel.
Joy
Step 1. Apply yellow face paint with a makeup applicator or large makeup brush. My model is 4 years old, so I did not apply a heavy coat.
Step 2. Joy’s eyes are lined with blue so I used L’Oreal Paris Infallible eye crayon Always Aqua.
It’s also sparkly!
Step 3. Add pink lipstick. I used L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Le Matte Lip Pen in pink.
Step 4. Put together your costume. All you need is a yellow dress, blue pixie and flowers!
Disgust
Step 1. Apply green face paint with a makeup applicator or large makeup brush. Add a bit of blush on top.
Step 2. Disgust has the most amazing eyelashes, But if you’re creating this look for a little one, your best bet will be to color them in. I used the green color found in the Kryolan Wheel.
Step 3. Add pink lipstick. I used L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Le Matte Lip Pen in pink and a touch of gloss.
Step 4. Put together your costume. All you need is a green dress, green blunt-cut wig and purple scarf.
Sadness
Step 1. Apply blue face paint with a makeup applicator or large makeup brush. Krylon’s blue was a bit dark so I blended in the color white.
Step 2. For an extra touch, I used L’Oreal Paris Infallible eye crayon Always Aqua on the eyelids and lips. Because, sparkles.
Step 3. Put together your costume. All you need is a blue or purple outfit. The top can be a turtleneck or you can simply use a blue scarf. The wig was a bit tricky because I could not find a blue blunt-cut wig like the one I used for Disgust. The hair was longer so I tucked in with bobby pins. Any Halloween store black framed glasses will do.
And there you have it! If you haven’t watched the movie yet, here’s the trailer for Inside Out.
