Into the Woods Video: Meryl Streep sings! She stars as a witch in the big-screen version of Into the Woods, an adaptation of the Broadway musical. A new behind-the-scenes video includes snippets of her lovely singing voice, last heard in 2008's Mama Mia and 1990's Postcards from the Edge. Anna Kendrick, Emily Blunt, Chris Pine and Johnny Depp also star; the movie heads to theaters on December 25.
Therese Raquin: Keira Knightley will make her Broadway debut as Emile Zola's notorious adulteress in Thérèse Raquin. The actress (above in Anna Karenina) is not a complete novice to stage acting; she previously starred in two West End productions in London. The play will open in October 2015. In the meantime she stars in Laggies, opening today, and costars in the November spy drama The Imitation Game. [The New York Times]
The Grateful Dead: Martin Scorsese will serve as executive producer for a new documentary on music group the Grateful Dead. Amir Bar-Lev (The Tillman Story) will direct; plans are for the film to be ready in time for the band's 50th anniversary next year. The band became associated with the psychedelic movement in San Francisco in the late 1960s and then became legendary for their extended stage shows. [Deadline]
Wonder Woman Director: The latest superhero buzz is that DC and Warner Bros. are hard at work prepping for Gal Gadot’s solo Wonder Woman film – and they have a specific kind of director in mind… one of the female persuasion. Early buzz has Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) getting a lot of nods, while others are hopping on the Angelina Jolie (Unbroken) train. We'd also love to see Michelle McLaren in the mix, too; she garnered lots of buzz for her work on Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. Who would you like to see helming Wonder Woman’s new big-screen adventure? [via THR]
